ARTIST STATEMENT
Izzy Treyvaud is an intuitive creature whose artwork is driven by internal processing of external factors, comparable to Surrealist works. Their curious nature promotes a multidisciplinary existence, with a focus on metaphysics and paradox. Their metaphysical art always strives to ask questions rather than give answers.
Being a jack-of-all-mediums, Izzy’s work has spanned across sculpture, video, painting, drawing, printmaking (lino, silkscreen, woodcut, and intaglio), paper art, installation, found object, and potentially some things that do not have a name yet. Their only rule is that they have to let the medium speak to the concept and the process.
Izzy has always been inspired by humans from all different walks of life, and wants to learn from their voices rather than the books that speak for them. Although Izzy has been based out of Toronto for most of their life, travel and ‘the road’ is their natural habitat, and collaborating with others is what feels most like home.
BIO
Art has been a long and difficult rubix cube.
Growing up with a psychiatrist father and a psych nurse mother, it was only a matter of time until Izzy Treyvaud would translate their psychology based upbringing to the therapy of artistic expression.
Art began as a mad experiment that quickly became an outlet. Implementing any medium Izzy can get their hands on, they like to explore a twisted perspective of reality in narrative and conceptual pieces. The inspiration for the majority of these concepts stem from Izzy's ability to often see beyond the veil of emotional nature. Observations and personal interactions between people are a source of inspiration and intrigue.
If you ever meet Izzy, they may ask you about your life story, but they won't ask you how you feel about it.
